President’s Update – February 19, 2009
Greetings:
There certainly have been significant changes for all of us these past several months with the national elections, the inauguration, winter storms and, most notably, the condition of both our national and state economy. On a daily basis we read about the continued deteriorating financial and housing markets, increased unemployment, bankruptcies, and a slumping retail. The state has its share of budget problems as well with a forecasted $8.5 million revenue shortfall for the next biennium.
As you’ve probably heard from many of us, community colleges have an inverse relationship with the economy in that our business increases during high unemployment and financial stress. EvCC is experiencing record enrollments at this time with an estimated 8% increase in student enrollments from one year ago. People seek out more education and training to prepare themselves for new careers and to use their time productively while out of work.
It should be noted, however, that the college is also subject to state budget reductions as a state assisted organization. In the current year we have reduced spending by $1.2 million in state allocations and anticipate greater decreases in the next several years. We may reach the point of workforce reductions in the college very soon.
On the otherhand, faculty and staff continue to be committed to working with all students in their pursuit of new training and career opportunities. We are always looking for better and more efficient ways to increase access to education. One example is the increase of 26% in our online instruction. free video poker how to play backgammon no deposit bonus online casino 888 no download casino play roulette craps game black jack download american roulette play video poker baccarat free casino game no download online casino free money on line casino wagering roulette online online casino betting free online casino slots free craps best casino roulette gambling internet casino gambling uk best casino online full pay video poker no deposit casino code best craps game black jack tournament best online casino site craps online game newest online casino free slots no download play blackjack online free dueces wild video poker black jack gambling online video poker gameдивани free casino cash no deposit video poker tutorial play free video poker how to win at black jack casino roulette casino guide how to win at roulette rules of craps casino game online real money backgammon baccarat casino online free video poker game optical communicationsplay free video poker video poker odds video poker tournaments
We recognize the difficult times in today’s economy and workplaces and will do our part to contribute in a positive and effective way that will prepare people for new jobs and positions at wages that support families and put revenue back into our state budget. We appreciate your continued support.
